Fishing in Geilo

What tastes better than freshly caught, freshly fried mountain trout wrapped in sour cream? The chances of getting a bite are good. You can choose between 90 fishing lakes and river stretches, located between 446 and 1523 meters above sea level.

There are many fishing spots, ranging from small idyllic ponds to large, open mountain lakes, as well as good stretches for fly fishermen in the Holselva river at the bottom of the municipality. Most waters have pure trout populations, and some also have char. The size of the fish is usually between 100 and 1000 grams, but every year a number of fish weighing up to 3 kg are caught.

Fishing is a great activity where the youngest members of the family can learn to appreciate nature. Remember that fishing is free for children and young people under the age of 16. For more information about fishing, please contact Geilo Tourist Information or the sports shops in Geilo. The Geilo and Hallingskarvet tourist maps show the fishing areas.

Winter and skiing in Geilo

Geilo and Hol Municipality are among the best areas in Norway for cross-country skiing and have more than 500 kilometers of groomed trails in both the valleys and on the mountain plateaus. The season starts in October/November and lasts until May. The most avid cross-country skiers can ski in the higher mountain areas until June. Bardøla Fjelltun is a 3-minute walk from Geilo Ski Stadium and the floodlit trails.

Alpine skiing in Geilo

Skiing fun for the whole family! The slopes at Geilo are suitable for everyone, from beginners to experienced alpine skiers. The ski slopes are located on both sides of the valley surrounding Geilo town center, and you can use the same lift pass on all lifts. The ski bus takes you from one side of the valley to the other free of charge. The ski bus stops frequently right outside the entrance to Bardøla Fjelltun. There are opportunities for ski-in if you are coming from Havsdalen and après-ski. The ski season lasts from around mid-November to the end of April.
